🗺 Campaign Guide

PATH OF EXILE · BOSS ECONOMY
League
A community-sourced rush guide, not an official one — the zone route and quest list are cross-checked against the open-source exile-leveling project's route data, and quest-giver NPCs are left out where that doesn't specify one. The map image for each act is a real screenshot of that act's layout, not annotated by this site. Only the quests below grant a passive skill point — every other optional quest in the campaign is safe to skip if you're rushing; you can ignore this quest and come back for the loot on a slower playthrough.
Each act's "Trial of Ascendancy" section (where present — Acts 4 and 5 have none) marks a zone with a Trial of Ascendancy: complete it once to help unlock the Labyrinth, a separate optional dungeon that grants Ascendancy points for your subclass. You only need 3 completed trials per Labyrinth difficulty (Normal/Cruel/Merciless) — some acts have more than one available, so treat extras as optional convenience, not a hard requirement.

How to level fast through the Path of Exile campaign

The ten-act campaign stands between every new character and the endgame, and getting through it quickly is one of the highest-value skills in Path of Exile — especially at league start, where hours saved translate directly into a head start on the economy. This guide follows the fastest practical route act by act: which zones to run, which to skip, and which quests are actually worth stopping for.

The core principle of a fast campaign is that most side content is optional. You do not need to clear zones, kill every rare, or complete every quest. You need to reach the next waypoint, grab the handful of rewards that permanently make your character stronger, and keep moving. The single most important category of "worth stopping for" is any quest that grants a passive skill point — those are permanent power you can never get back if you skip them, unlike loot, which you can always farm later.

What to prioritise

League start versus a second character

Your first character of a league starts with nothing and has to make do with drops and vendor recipes. A second character, made later, can be twinked out with cheap levelling uniques and currency from your first — a completely different, much faster experience. The item lists in this guide are split accordingly, so you're not told to buy something that doesn't exist yet on a fresh league.

How long does the Path of Exile campaign take?

An experienced player on a strong build can clear all ten acts in roughly four to six hours; a new player should expect considerably longer, and that's completely fine. Speed comes from repetition and build knowledge, not from rushing recklessly.

Which quests should I never skip?

Any quest that grants a passive skill point, and the skill-gem reward quests for gems your build uses. Passive points are permanent character power with no other source, so they're the one thing worth a detour even in a pure speed run.

Do I need to do the Trials of Ascendancy during the campaign?

You need to complete the required trials to unlock each Labyrinth difficulty, which grants your Ascendancy points — a major power spike. Each act's trials are noted in the guide; some acts have more than one, so treat the extras as optional convenience.

Why does this route skip so much content?

Because most campaign loot is trivial compared to what you'll farm in the endgame, so time spent clearing it is time lost. The route keeps only the stops that give permanent power or are unavoidable on the way to the next waypoint.
